I searched bibliographic databases about UTI and CAUTI and compared the results and findings. The guidelines indicate that once the correct articles are selected, it is important to create abstracts and record relevant information concerning my topic of interest. In each research, I considered the type of research carried, methodology, and findings of the research. I then compare the findings between the different studies to come up with the conclusion. The guidelines also emphasize the importance of using credible sources in carrying out the research literature review. By extension, the occurrence of CAUTI is a threat to the health of patients undergoing any form of care. Patients undergoing acute care are affected the most due to the weakened state of their body in fighting the infection.

The second study evaluated was: Interventions to minimize the initial use of indwelling urinary catheters in acute care: a systematic review, conducted by Murphy, Fader, & Prieto (2014). The study shows that there exists potential harm caused by the IUCs compounded to the infections exposed to patients. The use of a catheter has been associated with slow recovery as patients due to limited mobility. These are not inserted into the bladder vesicle-like indwelling catheters. The fifth study was Prevention of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI). The study was conducted by Roy, Philip, Fulwadiya, & Dhabade, (2018) and published in the Indian Journal of Public Health Research & Development. The study explored the nursing practices that would increase the prevention of patients with indwelling catheters from contracting infections.

They studied the effectiveness of structured teaching programs to prevent urinary tract infections. There are some developed ECD for women, although they have not gained popularity in the clinical setting. Due to their external nature and the ease in changing and cleaning the devices, ECDs result in lower risks of urinary tract infections. Studies on ECDs in men showed that they registered lower incidences of bacterium infections than those who used IUCs. Inconsistencies with Explanations The evaluated articles depicted some inconsistencies in their findings. Whereas there was consistency in the findings of the dangers of IUCs, the methods of reducing the infections were not consistent. , & Willmann, Y.
