The brain undergoes massive changes that make one enslaved in drugs and getting away with it becomes equally difficult. Fortunately, enough research has been conducted on this matter, and drugs have been developed to modify the behavior of addicts. Through rehabilitative processes, the people have been assisted to quit drugs and lead responsible lives in society. Drug addiction is characterized by compulsive and uncontrollable drug-seeking behavior. The complex interaction between these factors makes it a mental illness of chronic nature. Due to impaired judgment and memory, such people find it difficult to interact with other members of the family and society at large. Therefore, they are unable to derive pleasure from healthy behaviors they enjoyed before, for example, love, sex, and other social activities.
