Such are conformity and deindividuation which will be will be discussed ineptly in this paper highlighting work situations involving these mechanisms and the effects it has on the team. Advantages of conformity Conformity is changing ones believe and social behavior to fit in a group, (Hogg, 2006). Conformity in work situations is when an individual chooses to go along with how things are flowing in the organization he or she has is working. In every work environment, there is an office culture where people of that organization behave in a certain manner and conduct their social and formal activities in a certain manner to get to the set goals. Some members will feel out of place and keep to themselves their ideas and opinion which would have otherwise made a big contribution towards achieving their goal.

A team needs to trust each other to effectively work together. Conformity plays a major role in boosting that trust, (Johnson, 1991). When people feel they share a common goal and means of achieving it they have more trust for each other than those who don’t. A team that has conformed to a particular culture leading them towards achieving a certain set goal normally has more trust for each other than that which doesn’t. Conformity can go two of either way; the team can conform to good conduct that helps achieve the set goals or conform to behaviors that make work progress very difficult. Conformity may cause the members of the team to lose their identity which is what made them an effective team in the first place.

In every human society, we all are made unique and have different ways of how we prefer to conduct our selves. This, however, is not what defines a team. As stated earlier a team is a set of individuals working together towards achieving the same goal. When the members of the teamwork as individuals this, in this case, does not form a team.
