Often, people tend to value the outside appearances of other people rather than the inside of a person. This play has Carla and Bethany, who are totally different individuals being the main characters. Carla is a model, very beautiful but also unsuccessful and unknowledgeable. Bethany, on the other hand, is very knowledgeable, she is an accountant and a very talented writer but is not beautiful. These two ladies do not appreciate who they are but they desire what the other person has. Everyone is bothered by their own problems but do not stop to see what is bothering their neighbors or their friends. It is true that the American society currently goes about their own life every day ignoring the other people’s lives.

Nowadays, people are viewed from their exterior appearance because of what is portrayed in the media as ideal beauty. Nowadays, the media from the magazines and advertisements portray beauty as thin and curvy. Therefore everyone’s perception of the ideal beauty is changed. This also happens in reality. Beautiful women get a lot of attention from the society whereas the other women do not. They are therefore under the pressure to be as beautiful as other people for them to be recognized. What society needs to know is that they should be proud of who they are. In one way or the other, a person might feel envious of another person’s achievements but we ought to remember that we are all “wonderfully and fearfully made” (New International Version, Psalms 139:14).
