Abstract Art Essay
Document Type:Coursework
Subject Area:Arts
The piece has a flattering form of a vulgar and ugly incomplete form of a woman. The incomplete woman form has prominent like breast, wide eyes, grinning mouth and tapering mouth. De Kooning uses brushstrokes that blend the woman-like form with the background. The painting lacks an identifiable woman, and she does not have all the parts which is a characteristic of abstract art. Secondly, the incomplete woman is drawn out of the natural surrounding which is also another characteristic of abstract art. It shows that this works helped in the establishment of modern-day abstract art.
