Description of the Essay: This essay discusses the effects of innovations in technology and digital gadgets to family, spousal, and work-related unity and togetherness. It expounds on how people in the same living room or under one roof are engaged in different activities as some are plugged in social media platforms, others reading books, streaming news feeds, live games and movies while others are playing a digital game on a screen. Technology has in effect increased family and cohorts closeness and brought reasonable activities that make people stay in the same room and together with others but engaged in diverse activities. Rewrite a sentence, “As a result, the American living room in 2011 can often seem less like an oasis for shared activity, even if that fails just mean watching television together than an entangled intersection of data traffic- everyone huddled in a cyber-cocoon” Consequently, in America, the living room in 2011 does no longer seem like a room set aside for common activities like watching television together but rather like a cyber-cocoon where people are plugged and engaged in diverse personal digital activities.

Main Ideas in every section for Quality Time, Redefined” Section 1: Para# 1-3: In this section, examples of realities of effects technology has brought into the living room is portrayed where the whole family is in the same room but due to the digital consequence, everyone is engaged in different activities like playing games, streaming live games among many more. For a long time, this has been attained by sharing a living room and couch. What it “ DOES” Families have together time in the living room as it is the goal. However, with advances in technology and introduction of mini gadgets such as iPad, and laptops, families are united in the same room physically but they are engaged in different activities as everybody logs in to pursue their interest.

What I think about this section Technology is good and a great source of mutualism in families. However, it eliminates the routine of the family having time to pursue a common activity like television watching. What it does Technology is creating a rift between people as some of them admit to communication through laptop while sitting on the same couch. In my opinion, this is bad as it has created a culture where compassionate times are assumed to be solved by the use of technology human need for physical catch up is eliminated Section 5: Paragraph 29-32 Starts, “Then again, it’s not the first time. ” What is says Then again, this is not the first time that gadgets have brought about issues in families.
