observing and describing verbal and nonverbal communication

This Data Workshop is a practicum in verbal and visual descriptions: thick descriptions. For the purposes of this workshop the two types have been separated for better concentration. Observation: 10 - 15 minutes: eavesdrop on a conversation whose participants you cannot see. 10 - 15 minutes: observe a conversation you cannot hear but you can see. Written Description: Write an extremely detailed description of each conversation. Describe the setting, the people, what you think is going on, what you think you know about the people. Use your descriptions to support your conclusions. Each 10 - 15 minute observation write up should be about 2 - 3 pages long. Typed, double spaced, 12 point font. Then write a 1 paper connecting your findings to your observations. Make sure to include any examples that apply and quotes from the text or outside
