The distinction between position power and personal power
Document Type:Research Paper
Subject Area:Criminology
The former president of the United States, Barrack Obama, is a good example to use in describing position power. He issued one hundred and sixty-eight executive orders during his two-term tenure. This was by virtue of the powers vested in him by the office he held (Bradley, 2016). Formalism is the best theory to explain how Obama demonstrated position power because this theory outlines that leaders adhere to a prescribed form of carrying out activities. Through the constitution of the United States, the former president was often guided by what is enshrined in that document when making decisions regarding executive orders, which he put across by virtue of his position as the president. This type of power is very effective because the source of authority and influence is determined by the followers of a leader.
