The Impact of Architecture on My Perspective of Things

I did not know that architecture is a combination of both art and science. I was not cognizant of the imaginations, creativity and philosophy of the people involved in the different architectural designs that I admired all the time. I have thus realized that my understanding, and motivation to pursue architecture as a disciplined was not grounded on the core values that are at the centre of practise. I have since changed my attitude from seeing the knowledge and practice of architecture as a status symbol but I now embrace it as a discipline whose knowledge bestows the power on me to be a pace-setter in showcasing our civilization, creative ability through unique imaginations and to take an integral part in the socio-economic empowerment drive of the society at large through designing functional, affordable, durable and sustainable housing-which is a basic need.

Over the course of the semester, exposure to more literature and through my cognitive abilities, I have thus acquired new values that are part of the extensive professional ethical code of conduct that define competent architecture practices. Design is a compex art. It is good for an architect to have a serious understanding of their artwork so that it is easy for a layman to make sense of a unique design (Angela 27). This can only happen if an architect has good listening and answering skills. One should be able to develop a design with unique creative and scientific knowledge, but the language of explanation to laymen-who are usually our clients-must be very simple and straightforward because we only succeed as an architect when a layman can ununderstand and appreciate our work.
