Kimberlee Gooch Institutional Affiliation Tutor’s Name Course Name Date The Fourth of July The Fourth of July by Audre Lorde gives an insight of what African American went or are still going through in the United States. It tries to make the reader understand how painful and negative it is to be racially discriminated. In her story Audre Lorde remembers her early experience which made her go through psychological and intellectual stress. She conveys anger because of how the American society was. Precisely her anger is caused by the rampant racism and discrimination in America (Lorde). She succeeds in expressing her feelings and claims despite the use of irony to express her opinions. This paper analyses The Fourth of July by Audre Lorde. The author writes the essay in response to her family’s trip to Washington D.C. during the summer after her graduation from eighth grade. The author uses social activist groups that educate citizens on how they can put social activism to work in their own areas. Audre Lorde is a social activist since she uses her essay to highlight and discourage the racial discrimination that took place when she was young in Washington. She shows concern for the marginalized groups and calls for equality though she uses indirect methods to show her concern.
