” These were the last thing he said before he was taken up to Heaven. It is after this chronology of events that we see the beginning of the advancement of the proclamation of the gospel. The beginning of chapter ushers us to the day of Pentecost where they are filled with the Holy Spirit. The holy spirit unifies them and brings them closer together than before, Acts 2: 42-47. 1 After that we see the disciples starting to perform miracles, Peter heals a lame beggar. Paul also goes to Corinth where he stayed for some time; He also goes through to Macedonia and Greece. He also sails to Rome throughout the book of Acts. 2 The major theme that stands out from Acts 13-28 is the theme of persecution.

Throughout we see the Journey of Paul, ironically it was the Jewish leaders that were responsible for the stirring up of the persecution against him Acts 13: 50. Then later on in chapter14:19-20 of Acts we see Paul brutally beaten almost to death by some Jews who came over and won over the crowd, they thought he was dead and even dragged him out of the city. We see the Grace of God yet upon their lives when Paul and Silas were seriously flogged and imprisoned. Through His power, the Lord sends a mighty quake that breaks their shackles free, and swings open the gates of the prison where they are freed to continue with the proclamation of the good news according to the instructions that were given before Jesus was taken up in Heaven.

In Macedonia, the Lord uses his servant that is other disciples and the officials to protect his servant Paul and rescue his life. 4 Paul’s defense before King Agrippa was the story of his transformation from his original ways as a Christian prosecutor before he had an experience where he met the lord and his life was transformed completely. He persecuted the Christians and those who spread the Gospel, but now he is persecuted for sharing the Gospel. The reaction turned out so bad, it turned violent and was life-threatening to the duo that leaves Paul for dead. In Acts 13:46-47 Paul appeals to the Jews, he tells the Jews that they have been given the Gospel but have failed to listen to it, they have considered themselves unworthy of eternal life.
