The Influence of Reality TV on Social Norms and Constructs
Women have been mostly affected by the effect of reality TV as the shows have been tailored to either dictate the ideal body of a woman or the roles a woman is expected to play (Pozner). The reality TV shows have not only been antifeminist but have also directed at derailing women and people of color of the power they have away from conformity. Reality TV shows have been centered around objectification of women’s body, the shows tend to lean towards a certain definition of female beauty focusing on a certain body size, features such as slender long legs, breasts, skin color and texture among others. The effect of the objectification is a shift in social constructs about body image and beauty (Weber).
