The feature should be about someone you have personal access to, someone you will personally interview in order to find pertinent quotes. In that way, you’ll be able to come up with an original, authentic story. How your work will be graded: Dynamism: You have told a compelling story with a clear beginning, narrative development, and ending, all linked by effective and logical transitions. You have used interview quotes effectively to bring your subject and her/his story to life. Paragraphs are unified by a central plot point or idea. Paragraphs and sentences are of varying length so as to create a variety in pace and rhythm. You have minimized the use of passive voice and emphasized active verbs and sentence structures. You have been creative and thoughtful in how you present your story. Precision: You have applied correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling. You have constructed clear, straightforward sentences that can only be interpreted as you intended. You have used specific, concrete details, vivid images, and insightful observation to create bold and memorable pictures for your readers. You have avoided generalizations, clichés and lazy, unconscious phrasing. You have avoided insider jargon and technical language that could leave your reader behind. Concision: Every paragraph, sentence, and word moves your story along and contributes value and meaning. There is no excess or superfluous material. (3 pages maximum; 750 words; double-spaced)
