Impact of Excessive Use of Social Media on Academic Performance

These students have continued to use social media for purposes that include seeking social information, passing time, socializing, and entertainment as well as relaxing among others. Majority of them end up spending a lot valuable time that would have otherwise been used for studying and revision. They then end up spending less hours studying. In addition, such students engage in a lot of multitasking between social media usage and academic activities which reduces their productivity. Therefore, it is my submission that increased usage of social media for non-academic purposes would negatively affect academic performance. Are there any sides? What are they? If not, what are the main ideas and arguments? Yes. My position is that excessive usage of social media negatively affects academic performance of students.
