I grew up knowing that people from the ethnic background are different from us because of what I heard and witnessed how my parents and people from the Asian community handle or talk about other ethnic groups. Consequently, this made me think that the Asian people are better than others. For so long I had a different view of people from different races, colors, and origin in a way that I always believed that Asians are superior to other people. I could treat these individuals differently, especially during my first interactions with them. The perception I had about people of other ethnicities permeated deep into my soul and influenced my interaction with them. In changing my notion or view of others as it relates to racism, I exploited metacognitive abilities like egocentricity and self-consciousness and judgment.

Initially, I had prejudice that Asian is a superior ethnic group. However, I became conscious that people of my ethnicity exist in their individual spaces and that there exist people from different backgrounds too (Fish 53). I judged my previous egocentric perception and found it to be flawed in a great extent. I concluded that the world is heavily constituted with people of diverse ethnicity and not just Asians by becoming self-conscious. I am an immediate example: I learned with time that people from all races are equal to a great extent as opposed to what I was made to believe when I was a child. Gender Role Development A see gender as a continuum as opposed to a dichotomy. The world is changing, and the roles initially designated exclusively for men or women are now performed by individuals regardless of their gender.

Additionally, there are growing sub-cultures such as the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) that have entirely transcribed new roles across genders (McCormack & Eric Anderson 110). Therefore, using physical variables to see an individual as a male or female could interfere with the changing functions of people of different genders. Media has also contributed greatly to my gender concepts. I spend most of my free time following events on social media and other online webpages. Many celebrities Daniel Radcliffe, Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus to name a few have openly shown their support of LGBT. After following their reasons for supporting LGBT such as expressing one’s right to sexual orientation and the need to erase the traditional mindset, I changed my view of gender.
