Capstone Essay

Throughout this period, my reasons for attending school was to have successful life. Based on the teachings of my parents, I believed that education would open numerous opportunities for me that would grant me a successful life. For this among other reasons, I took a keen interest in art and learning English and Psychology. My art experience started from the age of five when I drew my first art painting. I also had much interest in how people related various situations and so I was very keen to study psychology. I believed and still do hold that liberal arts is the best course to help produce a well-rounded artist who is not only experienced and talented but also versatile to meet the needs of the market.

As I write this portfolio, I think about my friends. I would love to give them insight on my college experience. Indeed, education is the Key to success, I am an example. Ever since I came to the USA and went through Green River College and now University of Washington, I have learned new skills and competencies besides meeting people and created new networks that would help me get the best out of my career. As a result, I passed very well in my paper final paper on Cultural psychology. Moreover, the concept of diversity and equity has been emphasized adequately in the course study where I have learned from the life experiences and intellectual perspectives of various groups of people especially the historically marginalized, as well as the power plays that put individuals in positions of inequality and disadvantage.

Learning this has helped me appreciate the opportunities that I have besides giving me the confidence and skills to address inequality ethically and professionally to provide equal chances to every person I engage with. This I practiced as I covered my Cultural Psychology paper and volunteer work. I will thus be able to work in a diverse environment at any point of my career. This was a great opportunity to practice collaborative and shred leadership. Therefore, I am prepared top work with various teams and groups in the future to achieve personal and organizational goals. Writing and Communication This course has been useful in helping me appreciate the interconnection between purpose, author, context and audience in any piece of art. With this I am able to effectively communicate the purpose of my art to various audiences.

This I am able to do through presentations and writing and other means that supports quantitative and qualitative evidence to support the claims in my presentations. Not only that, with the skills I have gained from the University and the networks I have created, I am only destined for more opportunities. I have attended seminars and symposiums of interdisciplinary art, worked with various teams even leading some besides improving a lot on my oral presentation skills. My education has been of immense value to me and has prepared me for the next phase of my career. My work, I believe has been excellent and as such my interdisciplinary arts major will help open many doors that otherwise would not be accessible to me.
