PREVENTING CYBER BULLYING Cyber bullying is a challenge to youths due to unsupervised Internet use and peer influence. Most bullied victims have suffered from harassment and depression have had their education compromised and some have committed suicide. In addition there is a need for cyber bullying prevention which can be achieved through various interventions and school programs. These are to be implemented to either control bullying acts before they happen or manage them after they have occurred. This paper therefore aims at discussing different intervention and prevention strategies within which cyber bullying arising from unsupervised Internet use and peer influence can be tackled. This can be done through awareness and community approaches policy and regulation mechanisms parental controls support groups and school integrated programs. Community and students and other relevant stakeholders can collaborate to help prevent this problem and intervene when it occurs. A significant number of research studies in the area suggest that schools should increase their elements of awareness towards cyber bullying and empower educators parents students and the entire community to prevent and respond positively to the problem; while providing warning to bullies on the adverse effects (Wölfer et al. 2014). Establishment of effective supervision and monitoring programs for children online activities’ are of uttermost importance since they act as controls. Some studies suggest that effective management of cyber bullying requires participatory planning developing of effective anti-bullying programs carrying out the continuous assessments reviewing policies and procedures in Internet access as well as other communication devices by people.
