Dr. David Wechsler was born January of 1896 to a Jewish family they would later move to the United States. He would attend “City College of New York and Columbia University, where he earned his master's degree in 1917.” (Wechsler 2017) After World War I he joined the army as a psychologist. He was also chief psychologist at Bellevue Psychiatric Hospital in 1932. (Wechsler 2017) He is known for creating the deviation IQ also known as the DQ. This helps to test mental age and not just intelligence. Wechsler’s test was comprised of three categories a verbal IQ score, a performance IQ score, and a composite IQ these scores are figured together to give the final overall score. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) was created in 1949 by Dr David Wechsler. It was modeled after his previous test the Wechsler-Bellevue Intelligence Scale. The test is made to find the intelligence quotient (IQ) It was designed for children aged 6 to 16 and can be completed without reading. The test will take between 65 and 85 minutes to complete. The test has since been revised many times to better test for IQ. (DRB 2012) Today his test is not only used to find the IQ but also, they can be used to help diagnose things such as ADHD and other learning disabilities. Wechsler would die in May of 1981 at the age of 85. Dr. David Wechsler was a very well-respected physiologist.
