Lack of Fresh Water Supplies Essay

Out of the 70%, only 5% constitutes the fresh water which is used in drinking, bathing, irrigation and for general home usage. Two-third of the water bodies is tacked in frozen glacier while the rest are just unavailable for human use (Alsharhan and Wood). As a result of this, statistics have it that 1. 2 billion people across the globe experience insufficiency of fresh water supply and an estimated population of 3 billion can only access freshwater in one month for twelve months. Lack of freshwater has led to the spread of water-borne diseases that include typhoid and cholera. Most countries that are known to be the major global players in food production are close to reaching their water limits. Changes in the climatic conditions have also contributed in the alteration of the weather patterns thus causing droughts and shortages in freshwater in most parts of the world (Kareiva and Marvier).

One of the serious factors that can hinder growth and development in the world today is lack of freshwater. Most of the 21st century developments have been stagnated due to insufficient water.
