Literature - Final Exam Essay, Essay

This week, you'll turn in your last assignments for the class and take the final exam. The exam is an essay broadly based on the question that has been addressed in all the Discussion paragraphs and essays related to the course readings: what is world literature? You will have 1 hour and 1 attempt to answer this question. Remember to begin a literary essay with a clear reference to the title of the epic poem, essay, or story (in quotes or italics, depending on whether you have a "story" or an epic poem). The first paragraph must contain a thesis statement (not a question) that specifically focuses readers’ attention on your argument. The body paragraphs contain smooth transitional sentences related to the thesis and give specific details and examples for the main points (here’s where a quote may appear to prove your opinion). The conclusion makes a final point about your thesis and connects to your title. Always include a clever title to suggest the direction of your thesis or main idea. now you have your own well-informed thoughts about world literature because you took the course. The same question posed to you in many Discussions--What is literature of the world since the beginning of time until Shakespeare’s play read in class?--is now your final exam question, but you may use only the assigned course readings and your smart opinions to formulate your response. I am looking for an argument and opinions based on your understanding of the readings as you begin writing for 90 minutes to convince me in your introductory paragraph and developed essay. Include a clever title and refer to the course story titles and authors as they relate to your thesis. There are many answers to the question. Make yours memorable by persuading me of your learning. Grammar, structure, organization, development, and content are equally important to your grade because they reflect your ability to transfer knowledge from one context to another. The best posts will argue how one or two of the class readings come close, or not, to a definition of Southern literature. Always include the author's name, story title, and very brief evidence from the story related to your thesis (again, include only assigned readings from the summer) as evidence to prove your points. Take only the designated minutes to complete the essay. Arrange your answer in any way you wish, but answer the question using the course content as the focus of your essay. I'm interested in your opinions and not on a story summary. Follow the instructions for writing a final exam and use your own ideas to examine the readings in the course that best represent world literature. Remember not to refer to readings outside the class to make your argument. No quotes or MLA citations are required because this is a final exam essay. However, if you consult the textbook and include quotes, make revisions if the Turnitin report shows incorrect MLA format or plagiarism. No essays should reflect more than 15% matching in Turnitin because the majority of the writing should be in your own words and not those of your sources. In any case, keep lines of text minimal to prove your points. It's your ideas and good writing that will earn the highest grade.
