cultural differences between China and US
TopicCultural differences appear in many areas of human experience, including ways that may be surprising. These cultural differences may be positive, negative, or both. However, one culture may also have unexpected or surprising similarities to another culture. Discuss three major differences OR similarities between one aspect of living in the United States and the same aspect of living in your home country. Provide specific examples and other support, using research and your own experience or that of people you know. Do not try to talk about every area of life in the two countries. Instead, focus on only one, such as housing in the U.S. and your country or eating at restaurants in the U.S. and your country. Here is an example of incorrect focus: Brazil and the United States differ in terms of housing, transportation, and payment methods. Here is an example of correct focus: Food culture in Brazil and the United States differs in three main aspects. For C4, it’s important to compare two topics that are interesting to you. Having more choices can give you a lot of freedom, but it may also be difficult to get ideas, so as we’re working on the C4 outline, don’t be afraid to ask questions! As you choose your two topics to compare, please choose thoughtful points of comparison so that you can effectively show the depth of your critical thinking skills. You must not write on a topic you have written on in a prior semester. Two sources, in-text citations, and a Works Cited page are required. Note that the sourcing format will count up to 5 points on the essay rubric under “Essay Format.” Thus, be careful with the format of the in-text citations and Works Cited page. If sources are not used, there will be a 10-point penalty off the essay grade.Use comparison/contrast form appropriately and effectively:The comparison should be between two equivalent topics. The comparison should be significant. The comparison should avoid overgeneralizations and stereotypes. The comparison should focus on important similarities or differences between the two topics you are comparing, not just on random ones. The essay should use block or alternating form correctly.Academic Integrity Do NOT make up or invent statistics and information. Instead, you must cite authorities on the topic in order to be convincing and have academic integrity. Moreover, if you use sources, you must follow the rules taught about how to avoid plagiarism. Use the citation methods taught in Essentials on pages 353-367 and write a Works Cited List. A model research paper is shown on those pages. As the model shows, when you cite a source, you must be specific. You must have specific articles with specific authors from specific publications that have specific publication dates. Do NOT just say, “According to a book I read, . . .,” “According to The New York Times,” or “Everyone knows that . . .” Moreover, attribute the sources correctly. Do not guess the source page or source origin. Outlines and essays which have doubtful sourcing, doubtful content, doubtful wording, an unauthorized topic change, or plagiarism will not be scored. Remember that there are penalties for incorrect sourcing methods. You must include end citations and a works cited list for all sources used.
