In each of our two reflection essays, you are asked to choose one of our discussion topics and reflect upon how the dialogue with your classmates furthered your knowledge or understanding of a particular topic. Specifically, I will be looking to see the following information in your essay:
You clearly identify one of our discussion topics and provide a short description of the main themes of discussion. You may choose any discussion topic that we have written about so far in this term. Please choose a topic that was especially interesting or important to you.
You use the anthropological terms associated with the topics of this discussion and demonstrate that you understand what they mean and can apply them appropriately.
You describe your own opinion about this topic when you began the discussion assignment and you summarize some aspect of your initial post.
You describe at least one of your peer's posts and identify ways that their understanding or example of this topic was similar or different than yours.
You consider how the overall discussion changed the way you understand this topic or expanded your knowledge in a new direction.
You relate this topic to wider society or your own life outside of this class.
Please see the grading rubric attached to the essay assignments for a list of the specific criteria and point system that I will be using when I grade these essays. You may not write two essays on the same discussion topic, so be sure to prepare two separate responses to two different topics for your two essays.
