Presidents like Clinton wooed citizens into voting for them by promising a new government which later he did not offer(Zinn,2015). He was fighting for racial equality but still in support of social violence. In the United States at that time, the crime rates were high despite the construction of more jails, racism was the order of the day, high-interest rates and high rate of unemployment. This essay explains the main events, controversies, and insights that took place during American history. It was during this time that Clinton was president for his second term in 1996, most citizens did not turn up to vote as they believed that Clinton had not pleased them to their expectations during his rule. The judicial system was weakening, and citizens were committing billion of crimes while still aware of the increased number of jails and also the death penalty (Zinn, 2015).

The United States government saw North Korea, and Cuba as criminals and through this, the real culprits were concealed and got away with their crimes The United States government put a lot of effort into the army compared to other vital sectors of the country like health, education and technology. It was at this time the United States was spending more on the military than any other country in the world. It was spending twice more compared to Russia and triple compared to China and other superpower nations (Zinn, 2015). By spending so many funds on the military this meant that the country had to cut off some money set up for welfare, the citizens had to pay more taxes to maintain the army.

The government put so much emphasis on the military and did not create job opportunities for its citizens. The implementation of the Welfare Reform in summer 1996 which was a new financial deal to help the poor was just a strategy for Clinton to get votes(Zinn,2015). Personal Responsibility and Work opportunity act were put into action the same year. This act was to force the single mothers and low-income families to look for work by cutting off their benefits. It was at this time that the country showed the highest rate of unemployment one hundred thousand people applied for jobs in the sanitary department in Los Angeles. Citizens should not allow being incited by their leaders to treat each other differently just because of different skin colour, they are all one country and should treat each equally.
