Name: Professor: Course: Date:Current situation of refugees in Kenya A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution war or violence. He or she has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race religion nationality political opinion or membership in a particular social group. In most cases they cannot return home because the situation is tumultuous. High profile political violence in the sub-Saharan Africa has seen a rise in the rate of immigration and displacement of individuals leading to a rising level of refugees. The following paper seeks to assess the refugee crisis in Kenya and Somalia. It will achieve it by looking at its history as well as its roots causes. Kenya has been generously hosting and protecting refugees from violence and prosecution in neighboring Somalia for more than two decades. In the matter further consideration UNHCR stands ready to work closely with the Government of Kenya to strengthen law enforcement at Dadaab and support other measures to protect refugees and Kenyans alike against possible intrusion by armed actors from across the border. In conclusion a program has been launched to support people who voluntarily seek to repatriate to any of the safe areas in Somalia however for now UNHCR considers that large-scale returns are still not possible in many parts of the country in particular in South Central Somalia.
