The dialogue was mainly intended to get the real meaning of the term piety (Plato, 25). From the various definitions of the term given by Euthyphro, we are able to find out that Socrates was able to present his own account of the term by subjecting Euthyphro to various questions on the interpretation of the term. Socrates complains that Euthyphro did not explain the correct meaning of piety to him when he asked him. In this dialogue, we find out Euthyphro is at the court to prosecute his father for committing murder. From this act, Socrates asks Euthyphro whether it was piety for him prosecute his father or not. Caring of the gods was a good example offering services to them. He seems to agree with Socrates when he states that it is pious to please the gods at prayers and sacrifices (Cohen, 158).
