5 October 2018 08:01pm Final Research Paper Assignment American Literature Who Are We? What Do We Value? What Are Our Ideals and Ideas? How Does Our Literature Reflect Our Culture? Assignment 3: Final Research Paper Serious literature of all kinds involves the expression of meaning, the articulation of ideas by the authors, who use different genres and styles to convey that meaning and those ideas in the national literature of all countries. You are to write a five to seven page (minimum) essay that compares the ideas and/or values as expressed or reflected in two texts from American Literature, which we have read this semester. However, do NOT select poetry and do NOT use "I Have a Dream." You will need a clear comparative thesis, but under no circumstances should you assert that the ideas found in a text have "influenced" to any degree American culture. That would be a very hard and complicated point to have to support. Instead, you will offer a thesis that suggests that compares a specific idea and/or value, as it is articulated in the texts. Ultimately, though, you may want to assert in the conclusion, as you see it, that these texts express ideas that are a reflection of American culture. Your thesis should follow this template: In _____________ by ____________ and in __________ by __________ the ideas regarding _________________ (topic) are different or similar, as _________ (the first text) reflects the notion that ______________ (topic) is ______________________ , while __________________ (the second text) suggests that _______________ (topic) is ________________________. You should have at least 3 points of the comparison that are developed in paragraphs, keeping in mind your thesis is what you will support and reinforce in each paragraph. Remember, to compare the ideas of these texts by two different authors you may reveal the similarities or the differences or both. As well, you will be offering your interpretation for which you will give your own reasons, but you should support your ideas with quotations from the text of each author in addition to your reasons and explanations for why you think what you do. You also must use three scholarly sources from either books or journal articles that you find via the databases in the library. Do NOT use wikipedia or any encyclopedia or dictionary. (No more than four or five in a short paper such as this is appropriate, but the longer it is, the more sources you can use. "Rule of thumb" is one source per page of text.) You will quote from the source appropriately in the text of your paper, no more than twice, and document your in-text citations correctly as well as your bibliography, according to MLA guidelines. You should have a correct heading in the upper left hand corner of your first page, number your pages, and use Times New Roman fonts. You should double space only, including between paragraphs. You should give your paper a title. Be sure y
