Integrity cut across many sectors and in this particular paper I would talk about academic integrity, integrity implies that an individual does the right thing, at all-time even when no one is supervising. Upholding the integrity policies set forth by the university, of doing your work in academics even when a friend offers to help with your takeaway exams, meaning writing your paper and doing proper citation for the resources that you have been using as references (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). Integrity implies online quiz with no help of friend or textbook; integrity also implies reporting an individual who is not doing is own work or is suspected to be cheating in the assignment or the exam. Integrity implies having the standards and believing in the principles of the community and ensuring that the behaviors or conduct is consistent with the standards and principles for the community.

Integrity enhances the trust that is between you and colleagues since academic integrity implies that other persons can trust you. I did not report since I was imagining that he will get discontinued from pursuing his education and perhaps the blame would be on me. So I did not want to meddle in the affairs that would results in shutting fellow student’s academic dream, little did I know that I was not following the ethics and integrity that has been set by the school (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). Another incident, I was personally accused of using codes from fellow student when we were in a programming class, the student was done with generating his codes and since the instructor was strict on time, I was still way behind in coding, so I used the codes that the student had generate so that I might finish on time.

I had the choice of proceeding with the coding process for the remaining time and submit what I have done, or request the instructor for some extra time. Failing to do my own work was an integrity of an could be punished by expulsion. At one of the stations in Germany some ladies identified him to in a skirt, they summoned doctor and Ratjen had to leave the skirt, and his career becomes to an end (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). Dora was issued with another identification card, and papers for work and the Reich Labor Service took him to Hanover where he worked like a man. Ratjen later began running the bar business that his parents had, and never accepted to give further interviews to people until his death at 90 years old in 2008 (Brodsky, Jill, and Myron: 273).

Dora had a point of making a choice and standing firm by that decision, but he did not, especially we are informed that while he was 10 to 11 years old, Ratjen started realizing that he was not a female as the parents had the belief but rather a boy. The critical steps he should have taken is asking the parents which he failed to do and went on participating in sports as a female through he would never expose himself while in the changing room (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). Students are not left to scot-free after being found plagiarizing. Plagiarism also result in risking human lives, in the field of medical research plagiarism is very lethal or detrimental since such actions can lead to loss of many lives and widespread illness.

There in that field plagiarism could result in life imprisonment (Brodsky, Jill, and Myron: 273). Plagiarism could results in a monetary loss, in the field of journalism magazine and newspaper plagiarism that has been plagiarized can lead to suing of that particular publisher and penalized a costly fee in monetary terms. If an author uses the publisher for gaining through plagiarized work or ideas they can be given restitution fees (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). Therefore I would automatically fire the employee and replace him or her with another person (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115). That would be a way of protecting the name of the organization or company, and the remaining workers would fit into the culture of integrity and strong organizational ethics.

What I have learned from the incident above is that plagiarism or taking some individuals’ work without their permission is a perilous mistake that can result in huge loss of money, tainting of name or loss of career, even worse is a risk of life imprisonment (Brodsky, Jill, and Myron: 273). When a student joins an academic community, the responsibility of abiding by the principles of ethics that are related to the academics, respectable and fair treatment of other individuals, and intellectual integrity among other factors, the academic freedom is applicable to the research and the teaching staffs at the university and students (Muuka et al. There are protection rights to the students as they are learning and the teacher to proceed with teaching; the intellectual integrity comprises of right ethical and sound techniques that are followed in the pursuit of learning or knowledge (Brodsky, Jill, and Myron: 273).

The most extreme or blatant plagiarism is the use of specific sentences from another person’s work and including in the personal work as part of your work without giving references for the same work. Like the case where the assignment given to students did not require citations and the student decide to uplift some phrases online and did not reference the work in his article (Muuka et al. The acknowledgment of the scholar’s contributions in the article is important, and that is the reason for the use of referencing the work of the scholar either at the end of the work or in the footnotes and endnotes, and even in-text citations. The acknowledgment is done according to the norms that are laid down by the discipline ethics (Nolen-Hoeksema, Susan, and Neil: 115).

The methods which have used in collecting the data must be well laid for the professional and other researchers. Therefore, the incident of asking the professors or instructor to add the student marks on a given course or unit is not fair since it would be discriminate the other students and gives to one unfair advantage in exams. The respect and fair treatment principle applies to the treatment of other members of the academic community. The students are also under control or guiding principle of the ethics which refer to the faculty members (Brodsky, Jill, and Myron: 273). In conclusion, plagiarism is a serious matter that is not treated lightly, and the most of the cases that are brought to courtroom are dealing with the issue of cheating and plagiarism starting with the issue of Ratjen Dora and 34 students from the business schools, and even music recorders, company’s, authors among others are involved issue of plagiarism.
