Children who score high in IQ tests perform better in math and display high speed of cognitive processing. This has led to the adoption of IQ measures in selection, placement and decision making in the educational setting (Richardson, 2002, p. For this assessment, I took IQ Test Ten consisting of thirty questions testing mathematical, linguistic and logical intelligence (Carter, 2008, p. The test also included graphics for logical and cognitive testing. I think all the questions apart from 3, 9, 11, 17 and 19 effectively gauged intelligence. This is because the acquisition of knowledge based IQ of an individual is hindered by many things. Differences in socio economic opportunities and educational standards makes it very difficult to come up with a tool that can measure an individual’s innate intelligence objectively.

Individuals from less affluent backgrounds lack the education to enable them comprehend and answer IQ test questions effectively. This should not be confused with less intelligence. Attempts should be made to develop a test which entirely focuses on pictures, designs and demonstrations. This will definitely result in lower scores thus giving a wrong impression of less intelligence (Sattler, 1980, p. IQ tests portray intelligence as a cognitive trait which spans across the lifespan. However, a number of studies have shown the malleability of intelligence in the long term. For instance, increased IQ scores have been recorded after adoption into a rich family (Van IJzendoorn, Juffer, & Poelhuis, 2005, p.  307), non-cognitive interventions such as increasing motivation has also been found to increase IQ scores while disrupted schooling lowers IQ scores (Ceci & Gilstrap, n.

On the age basis, they were differentiated into grade 4 versus grade 8. The first measure of M-capacity, Direction Following Task (DFT), and the second measure, Figural Intersection Task (FIT), were administered to the participants, each session taking an average of 40 minutes. DFT was administered individually while FIT in a group session. Participants from the gifted stream had a point higher on both DFT and FIT measures. These results show that M-capacity measures are useful auxiliaries of standard intelligence tests. The central nervous system controls all behavior therefore biological psychologists try to dissect the functioning of the brain so as to understand behavior. Main areas of focus are; control of movement, emotion, sleep, sensation and perception, learning and memory, motivated behavior, decision making, language and reasoning.

Biological psychology can be applied in various professions. In assessing mental health problems, mental health clinicians, counsellors and social workers employ the bio-psycho-social model. This model view the causes of mental health problems wholesomely and not just limited to a single domain of human experience. Negative expectancy could make the student to perform poorly therefore it is paramount that teachers should hold high expectations of their students to spur motivation and hard work ("most important psychological concepts for teachers to apply in classrooms," 2015, p.
