Massive costs for running the school have promoted the lawmakers in schools to reduce the usual five days of school to a four days plan. The new school day plan runs from Tuesday to Friday where the administrators have added ninety minutes to the daily program. In “Four day school weeks: the rule to skip school” Jaclyn Melicharek promotes that this issue has engaged controversies among students, parents and teachers arguing whether it is beneficial. Melicharek (96) emphasises that the schedule for four days high school is not appropriate for students and the school administration. He engages that it is not beneficial because it downgrades academic performance and quality education (Melicharek 96). Unnecessary co-curricular programs such as drama and trips in schools pose financial constraints, and stopping them could go a long way in raising the school economy.

The four days per week initiative is affecting student’s performance. The less time in learning can be easily expressed by comparing studies on students from America who go through a four day per week program and students in China and Korea who have the five days per week (Melicharek 96-97). According to Melicharek (96), the students in China and Korea performed better in Mathematics, Science and English. Comparing the mode of study and hours spent under instructional learning Melicharek (97) concluded that “It is frightening to consider how four-day school week would impact United States student’s level of academic achievement…”. ” Some of the workers have two jobs per day and lengthening hours on one day directly impacts them because they have to quit the second job.

Teacher’s exhibit tiredness after teaching for an extra two hours and thus cannot be active while teaching. The teaching process requires preparedness and skill in planning and executing. For example, a teacher who has not prepared well for a class may misdirect students, or a tired bus driver may cause an accident inflicting the students. Workers and teachers are a crucial part of education and introducing a four-day policy impacts them negatively. I disagree with the advantages associated with a four-day weekly policy in school because they are just little procrastination and are not based on facts. The school days should remain five because events such as low academic performance are real when the four-day program is enhanced. Limiting the school days limits the successful absorption of knowledge in students: the teachers, other workers and student benefit from the five-day weekly policy in schools.
