Research further reveals there are more than one hundred and fifty million ladies in the world who have gone through that harmful act or are at a higher risk of going through it in the future years. When a given transition takes place in one’s life, it is said that one has gone through a given rite of passage. There are four rites of passage in the life of a human being, they include birth, circumcision, marriage, and death. In some communities, circumcision is a mandatory rite of passage for both female and male individuals, after circumcision, the individuals involved migrate from childhood to adulthood. In such communities, female beings are left with no option but to be circumcised in order to attain adulthood. • When the circumcision process takes place, it is often accompanied by bleeding. This increases the risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). • Problems having sex. Scarring can also cause vaginal tissue to be less elastic than normal vaginal tissue. They may not be able to pass all of their menstrual blood. This can cause pain and periods that are longer than normal. Some women may also have infections over and over again.
