Name Tutor Course Date Literal Criticism: A Rose for Emily A Rose for Emily a short story was written by William Faulkner and published in 1930. The story is primarily based on the tribulations of a woman named as Emily who is the main character. Faulkner writes of how Emily became a minor legend at her time and not easy to forget even after her death. The turn of events portrayed by Faulkner earns the short story a gothic or horror like dimension. Many literal criticisms have been put forward for the real meaning of the whole story. My idea is in partly agreement and also in contrast with what Heller want us to believe. The larger portion of this critical discussion is centered on different possibilities of analyzing Emily (Heller 2). Essentially William Faulkner uses foreshadowing and flashback along with some overly descriptive moments combined with elements of vagueness resisted being a push over thus deserving a rose for consolation.
