Secondly, it has been discussed that the continued use of the word Chicano is founded on the Chicano Movement which took place in 1960. Since this movement is usually commemorated, it helps in sustaining the term Chicano even in the recent development of events. As such, Chicano and Chicana have been used interchangeably by the Mexican Americans as a way of expressing their true affiliations to the native culture and ethnic identity. The discussions in Week 1 have also revealed that some populations in Mexico and USA regularly use the terms Chicano and Chicana while referring to a person of mixed race.
