Sam Houston’s strong stance despite of opposition was evident at various cases, at first, it was witnessed when the civil war was looming in the year 1861 and his constituents were voting to secede from the union. On his part, he refused to sign loyalty agreement to the Confederate States of the America as he felt that it wasn’t okay to secede from the union. Campbell, 102) After being forced out of the office for refusing to sign loyalty agreement to the Confederate States of the America, Lincoln, the president offered Houston the use of federal troops twice so as to keep Texas in the union and Houston in office, Houston declined both offers from the president so as to prevent making Texas a scene of violence, instead he chose to go exile.
