Aimee Mullins

at least 250 words for discussion and 100 words for each peer reply. Total paper lentgth should be 550 Deadline midnight today Use the story of Aimee Mullins from the internet Discussion: Do any of the readings surprise you? Any truths dispelled or reinforced? What truths or assumtions do you have about yourself that might be different if you were a different you, or wanted to be a different you? What is considered normal? What fallacies do we tell ourselves? What is the difference between thinking critically about yourself, and being critical about yourself? How does it affect you and those around you? How could critical thought change things in your life, or in society? Repsond to some or all of the questions with a post of at least 250 words. 2 replies to peers of at least 100 words each. Peer 1: Fallacies that we tell ourselves is that we are not normal that we need to be the people in magazines and that is not true. The difference between thinking critically about yourself and being critical is that thinking critically is trying to improve yourself in a good way. By that i mean in a healthy manner. Being critical about yourself is being negative and not trying to help yourself in a positive manner. I feel that this could affect your self-esteem greatly I mean look at Aimee Mullins she took her disability and became the person she is today. With her doing this she has become an inspirational person to many other people oppose to if she would of just felt sorry for her self and not improved her self that would affect people in a whole different other way. I feel that critical thought can change things in your life because you actually stop and think about things you would probably make different choices if you did not. Peer 2: Aimee Mullins story is amazing. Her story just teaches me how anything in this world is possible as long as you put your heart and mind into. Her motivation helped her go forward and thrive towards her dreams and goals regardless of the fact that she did not have legs of her own, since they got amputated below the knee when she was an infant. It’s good to see other people’s struggles and to see that regardless of them they don’t let anything stop them. How they become successful and accomplish their goals and dreams. These types of stories always teach me how in reality we can do all that we put our all into, the sky is the limit. Sometimes as humans that we are we tend to feel like we have it really hard or like we have too much stress when in reality our lives are a piece of cake compare to so many others. And yet at times they get to accomplish so much more. I believe it’s all in our mindset. I’m a strong believer that when you turn your situation around and see the entire positive in it, you will be more successful in all you do. With discipline belief, and the right knowledge we become the best we can be.
