Within the criminal justice system, there are two different competing values for the public’s view of justice. These models are called the Due Process Model and the Crime Control Model. The debate between advocates for these models is based upon criteria found in the textbook on pages 20 to 21, Chapter 1. The Due Process Model emphasizes the rights of the individual as found in the Bill of Rights while protecting the public safety. The Crime Control Model places the emphasis on crime reduction and public safety by the efficient process of justice.
