ASSIGNMENT C Critical Analysis – Compare & Contrast (EPAS 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.1.5, 2.1.6, 2.1.10) Due: November 3, 2016 Purpose: To demonstrate the synthesis and application of critical thinking and writing skills with regards to differing perspectives. Each student will have the opportunity to assess diverse perspectives regarding a contemporary social issue and provide his or her critical analysis of comparable and opposing perspectives regarding that issue. Description: Students will be assigned ONE scholarly article regarding a critical issue impacting professional social work (SEE ATTACHED ARTICLE). After reading the assigned article, students are to identify a SECOND article with an OPPOSING viewpoint of the article assigned by the professor. Students are to read the articles and be prepared to participate in a class discussion regarding the articles. A date for the class discussion TBD and will be posted on Blackboard along with the articles. A four to six-page paper (4-6) comparing and contrasting the perspectives of the authors is to be submitted by each student. Critical analysis comparison and contrasting paper is to include, but is not limited to, the following information: Introduction The main issue addressed by the author(s) in each article. The main purpose of each article. Each author’s perspective regarding the social issue (conservative? Progressive?) Information presented by each author and its relationship to the main issue. Core concepts articulated by each author that are used to address the main issue. What assumptions if any are suggested by each author? Perspectives provided by each author which support the other author’s perspective Discuss the similarities in each author’s support of the social issue. What are the main issues addressed by each author that also support the other author? Contrasting opinions introduced by each author. What are the contrasting opinions of each article? How do these contrasting opinions challenge what is discussed in each author’s article?
