OSMOSIS EGG LAB REPORT
Document Type:Lab Report
Subject Area:Biology
Osmosis occurs in a cell when two different solutions of distinct concentration are separated by a semi-permeable membrane, water molecules tend to move from the highly concentrated solution to the lowly concentrated solution through the membrane. My hypothesis for the experiment was that mass and size of the egg increase when placed in vinegar, the size and mass of the egg decrease when placed in corn syrup, and the size and mass of the egg increase when immersed in water. When the egg was immersed in the water, the water molecules moved into the egg. This is supported by the observation that the size and mass of the egg had increased. This shows that through osmosis the water molecules moved from the area of high concentration into the egg which had a lower concentration of water molecules When the egg was removed from the corn syrup the volume of the remaining liquid had increased.
