Write a brief report relevant to the areas identified in the scenario provided below.

Scenario You are working as a junior researcher as part of a team of psychologists. The Syrian war has resulted in migration of large numbers of refugees from Syria through Europe. A small number of refugee families have now arrived in the UK and are in need of psychological and social support, while adjusting to life in the UK and recovering from the trauma of war and migration across Europe. You are approached by a newly established Refugee Task Force (RTF) who have been set up by a charity to support refugee families (adults and children). There are two main areas of support needed. The first part of the support needed is help for families to address the consequences of trauma. The second part of support needed is to understand how families are likely to adjust to life in the UK. The RTF is seeking an understanding of the challenges, and how and where one might intervene psychologically to meet them. Working with traumatised populations is sensitive and the task force wants to know what type of risks there may be in offering interventions. As the board of the RTF are not psychologists, before commissioning a more detailed report and plan for services, they are asking for a short explanation and discussion of how and when self-help programmes might be useful for helping Syrian refugees dealing with their experiences. This explanation and discussion should cover the main psychological issues and some brief recommendations for the type of interventions needed. The report you are being asked to write fits a context in which an agency (RTF) is planning a service for refugee families to address two of the main challenges of living in a new country: trauma and adjustment. "Your report will need to be concise, and it's main purpose is to provide an initial assessment of the challenges and risks for offering different interventions, including self-help. Given the short word limit, this part of the EMA requires you to use a mainly textual format. You can support your points with appropriate additional elements, such as tables, graphs, or other figures, but please note that tables and figures still need to be included in your word count. It is appropriate to draw on material that you have found in your independent study time, for example through the Open University Library, as well as the provided module materials. Command words There are two command words in the Part 2 question: discuss and explain. You are asked to discuss the main issues flagged up in the scenario (PTSD and acculturation). This means breaking the question down into smaller elements, and providing an argument based on psychological theory and research. In order to do this effectively, you will need to explain some of the issues further, giving details about the different pathways of acculturation and ideas about PTSD and interventions, and drawing on psychological theories and research. Finally, you are asked to make some specific suggestions about the interventions, including self-help. Throughout it is important that you keep your answer grounded in research and evidence, and that you remain critical. Tips for writing An important element of writing this part of the EMA is to remember your audience and write appropriately for them. Your audience has been identified in the scenario as non-psychologists. Therefore, though you should assume that the audience are professionals and educated to a high standard, you should not assume familiarity with psychological concepts, theories or terminology. " While the first attachment has relevant areas, especially in relation to the critical perspectives that may be helpful to apply to refugees, the second attachment deals with PTSD in more detail, including PTSD caused by violent conflict.
