When they were first discovered, they were not associated with any disease, and that made scientists refer to them as orphan viruses. However, later, there was a discovery that the virus was known to be the causative agent of respiratory and intestinal tract infections (Borodavka et al. The capsid has the double-stranded RNA in it that will be digested after entering the host cell. An important point that is worth noting is that the viral mRNA is manufuctured in the cytoplasm. Additionally, the group is associated with 15 genera that constitute the 9, 10, 11, or 12 segments related to the linear dsRNA. However, the case is different in the spiked genera, where the enzymatic proteins form turrets on the core surface. An important point to note that is associated with the spiked genera is that their projections have spaces that act as exit points of the nascent mRNA after its synthesis by the associated enzymes.
