Cells growing from the tissues were examined 7 days after irradiation using light and transmission electron microscopy and were also tested for their ability to produce signals indicative of a bystander effect. The exposed cells displayed pronounced damage and were orders of magnitude more sensitive than the data in the literature would suggest(Nephrops 241). Cellular abnormalities included damage to organic molecule from the cells (Leach Van and Lin 3895). Most of the damage to critical molecules such as DNA RNA or protein in the living cell occurs by this indirect mechanism. This effect can also occur through the direct heat by the molecule.
