The primary theme of strategic planning is to establish decisions and actions that guides and shape what makes an organization, its purpose, whom it serves and possible means of future success. Through strategic planning, an organization can make clear its vision and determine the possible progress of the organization. Strategic planning requires a series of steps which may differ when it comes to the healthcare sector. Some of the steps include assessment of both internal and external environment, strategy formulation, strategy execution, and the final step is an evaluation. In the healthcare sector, the assessment phase that involves the analysis of both external and internal factors will look at some of the key elements as well (Rumelt, 2011). As a result, it is important to consider each factor in the course of strategic planning.
