Symbolic Healing Symbolic Healing is a form of healing therapy that exists and is as old as recorded human history and likely older. It is observed in almost every culture around the globe and is predominantly rampant in religious traditions. Although it has been substantially forgotten or ignored by contemporary liberal Protestantism this form of healing therapy was a fundamental component of early Christianity; a dominant part of that nascent faith’s appeal1 (Frank 1973). With the rise of modern scientific medicine this form of healing is no longer viewed as a mainstream form. Indeed modern conventional wisdom suspects that faith “healings” are nothing more than the work of charlatans imposing deception and trickery upon the gullible 1 (Frank 1973). By symbolic healing; we do not suggest illusion delusion or ersatz well-being. Rather it is a well-established fact in social science that human beings do not live in the physical “Mimesis is considered to be representing the human emotions in new ways and representing to onlooker listener or reader the inherent nature of these emotions. In sculpture Mimesis manifests the three-dimensional plasticity of an image an onlooker has with which he can empathize within a given situation.”2 (Svendsen Auerbach & Trask 1955).
