I NEED THIS DONE ASAP OR BEFORE MIDNIGHT. THE ASSIGMNENT LOOK LONG BUT ITS NOT. Please make a positive response to post. Post 1-4 need at least 50 words each. (Organized Crime Class). Post 5-6 need at least 2-3 sentences each (Government Class). POST 1 Colombia is a country that has the title of being one of the world's biggest cocaine producers. The Colombian drug trade brings in billions and billions of dollars every single year. Pablo Escobar was a Colombian drug lord and drug trafficker. At one point in time, his cartel supplied close to 80% of the cocaine that was smuggled into the U.S.Plan Colombia is a U.S. initiative that aimed at combating Colombian drug cartels in Colombian territory to prevent them from smuggling cocaine into the U.S. This plan was successful to a certain extent, because it slowed down the cocaine being smuggled in the U.S. but it did not completely stop, because drug smugglers found different routes to avoid being caught. The war on drugs movement has not been completely successful because there are still a lot of drugs being smuggled in this country, a high amount of people using drugs, and a lot of people selling drugs. I honestly can say I don’t know what strategy can be used to combat drugs in the U.S. I would say incarcerate more drug dealers, hire more border security, and send addicts to rehab, but those all will cost more tax dollars and could lead to even more problems (Roth 2010). MS 13 OR Mara Salvatrucha Is a Latino gang that was started in Los Angeles, California in the 1980’s. . They are known for their body and face tattoos, violence, murder, drug dealing, prostitution rings, and other crimes. The members of MS 13 are all around the U.S , and in spanish speaking countries like Mexico and El Salvador. They have even expanded themselves to Canada. MS 13 members are typically legal and illegal immigrants, and sometimes help smuggle other immigrants into the country (Roth 2010). Roth, Mitchel P. (2010). Organized Crime. Chapter 8: Homegrown Organized Crime: Outlaw motorcycle gangs, Prison gangs and urban street gangs. Pgs. 274-317. Roth, Mitchel P. (2010). Organized Crime. Chapter 11: Organized Crime in Mexico and Latin America. Pgs. 392-438. POST 2 The cocaine industry in Columbia is so big because Columbia is home of the coca plant. Columbia has many coca fields which makes the drug industry more profitable than anywhere else around the world.Pablo Escobar was the leader of the cocaine movement. He expanded the cocaine movement to different places, making it bigger than it ever been before. Plan Columbia did work! It's goal was to lower the amount of cocaine was being produced and it did. The war on drug on the other had wasn't as successful. I think the only thing the war on drugs did was toughen up on certain drugs(drugs in which mainly African Americans used) and that caused people to go to jail for longer periods of time than usual. That is one of the main sources of mass incarceration! I watched season 1 episode 1 of Narcos and in the episode it shows how Pablo Escobar came to power in the cocaine trade. It highlighted the way he paid off cops, threatened cop, had women working for him, pregnant women, and even kids. I think the best way to diminish illegal drug use in the US is to have more programs about drug abuse. Growing up there were a lot of programs that told kids not to do drugs but they didn't say why. The ugly true behind drugs, drug abuse, and how they tear apart families and homes weren't shown. I think when people get a better look at how awful they are and have more support for them it'll be easier to slow down the usage of illegal drugs in the US. POST 3 Pablo Escobar was the drug kingpin of Columbia, reaching his peak during the 90s. It was estimated that he, and his cartel, supplied up to 80% of the United States supply of cocaine. Escobar gained most of his power and connections through being tied into the Colombian political scene. According to PBS " Pablo Escobar was incredibly violent and his quest for power within the Colombian government led to a stand-off between the cartel and the government" (PBS 2014). Plan Columbia and the war on drugs seem not to be working too effectively. It appears as if once lawmakers and the government attempt to make laws and enact different legislation, the drug economy seems to sidestep them. "The Global Commission on Drug Policy reported that between 1998 and 2008, global use of opiates increased 34.5 percent, cocaine 27 percent, and cannabis 8.5 percent" (Li 2011). This stat says it all, as the world is actually doing more drugs now then they were when the war on drugs was enacted. I believe that the best way to stop illegal drug use is to cut the drugs off at the head. We must make the countries who are allowing their citizens to supply them crack down with us, allowing for a full scale war against them. If we can cut the drugs down before they are even able to be exported, it would help the whole world. MS 13 is a gang that consists of Central American immigrants who's goal was to protect other immigrants from other gangs when they came over from Salvador. This gang has spread greatly from the Los Angeles area, reaching all across the country, on both coasts. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/drugs/business/inside/colombian.html http://www.ibtimes.com/ POST 4 I think the main purpose of the leadership questionnaire is to determine weather you are either have Transformational leadership qualities or Transactional qualities or in fact you don’t have any leadership qualities at all. A person with Transformational leadership qualities usually are proactive to convince associates and followers to strive for higher personal and organizational potentials, as well as higher levels of performance. Transactional leadership gain compliance from associates and followers by clarifying expectations though contracts. Non-leadership qualities have an absence of an active leadership or influencing with followers and associates. This usually translates to the work forces including low morale, and demotivation for performance and underperformance. Based on the leadership questionnaire I scored highest in the Transactional leadership. I think my plan of attack to reach a more of a transformational leadership is to get with a transformational leader and practice the things I wouldn’t usually do. I would learn to be more out going because transformational leader are usually described as enthusiastic, passionate, and energetic. I think it would help to work with others to build my leadership qualities because transformational leader are not just concerned about helping the whole group but rather everyone in the group. Before you can become a good leader you first have to understand your leadership style. POST 5 Yes, I feel there is bias in the judicial system. During my research on the subject, the Justice Department has stated, "one in three black males will to prison at some time in their life, compared to 1 in 17 white males." Also, I read an online article in which former Mayor Robert Giuliani states, " the conviction rate is almost exactly the same for whites and blacks who commit murder." I feel if a black male/female and a white male/female commits a crime, the black person is more likely to be arrested. I find this to be true from experience, especially since black are under more scrutiny than whites. The area and environment can be a factor, simply because most blacks live in the inner city, unless they are able to escape to the suburbs, where police presence is not as abundant. The more people in an area, the more they are policed. When it comes to the poor and middle class vs. the upper class in the judicial system, the latter will win. The bias in the judicial system is who can afford the best legal representation. Most poor and even middle class individuals cannot afford legal representation, the are forced to rely on a public defender, or are assigned one by the court. The upper class can more than not, obtain legal representation. http://law2.umkc.edu/faculty/projects/ftrials/Simpson/simpson.htm http://huppi.com/kangaroo/L-CJSpoor.htm POST 6 Yes, I feel there is bias in the judicial system.
