Optimal Nurses Staffing Name Institution The article is based on a study carried out by Avalere and the American Nurses Association (ANA) to determine how optimal nurses staffing models impact on the quality of healthcare and improvement in patient outcomes. The study found out that optimal staffing is imperative to the provision of professional nursing value. The current nurse staffing systems used in health facilities are often inflexible and antiquated. As such the authors deduced that improved patient outcomes could be derived from staffing models that incorporate the number of patients and the nurse-to-patient ratios. According to the article factors that influence nurse staffing needs include: proximity to or availability of healthcare technological support; layout and physical space of the nursing unit; professional nursing and other staff skill level and expertise; facility. The quality of care delivery and patient outcome at the facility is significantly affected by short-staffing. In circumstances where nurses are inadequate at the facility the available nurses are often overworked. Hence negatively affecting the health care at the facility. Tired nurses can never be efficient in giving care. For this reason the concept of optimum nurses staffing would be appropriate for my healthcare facility in enhancing the quality of care and improving patient outcomes. The adequacy of healthcare providers directly impacts on the overall quality of health provision. References American Nurses Association. (2015).
