Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Date Sociological Imagination vs. Structural Functionalism Sociological imagination is the correlation between an individual’s experiences and the social forces that influence their placement within the larger society (Mills 5). Notably sociological imagination aims at finding the relationships that exist between an individual and the social realm and other influences such as historical forces. This perspective challenges the tenets of the structural functionalism theory by opening up a platform inhabited by an individual with regards to the society. It is worth noting that sociological imagination was the stability of the whole; social institutions such as religion and education facilitate the stability of society. Functionalist views suggest that social problems stem from a society’s natural evolution. In this view poverty and crime as social problems provide employment for some poor people like those in social service agencies.
