According to Theobald, Resnick, Spain, Dittus, and Roumie, (2017), there is a rise in unprofessionalism among the nurses owing to lack of proper knowledge. This behavior leads to a higher risk of urinary tract infections among these patients. At such times, it may be life-threatening since they have other complication and are considered sicker than the other patients. It is in this regard that the effects of catheter use related urinary tract infections are deemed critical for health. In this case, a number of proposals have been made towards the proper management of infections that result of catheter use. In the short term, it helps in the reduction of the risk of CAUTI owing to catheterizations. In essence, this takes about 2-3 weeks.

Purpose of the Change Proposal This change proposal aims at providing a solution towards the reduction of the cases of infection among patients using catheters. With this in mind, this change will be implemented on the patients. It will enable the individuals in the healthcare profession to evaluate the methods of intervention to reduce the infection cases. Literature Search Strategy Employed In order to get the proper search strategy, it was necessary to establish the crucial keywords from the PICOT: some of this included catheter infection, reduction of catheter infections, and application of chart reminders to prevent catheter infections. This was followed by the need to select the proper databases that would be used in search of the literature. Some of these databases include PubMed, Google Scholar, Medline, and CINAHL.

The combination of the search terms was done through the Boolean terms for the literature collection. Nonetheless, this literature was restricted to the peer-reviewed articles with their publications within the last five years. However, it significantly reduced with the education of the nurses and their provision with the authority to remove the catheters when necessary. This is also asserted by Niveditha et al. They state that this step increases the cases CAUTI’s. Thus, it becomes important to train and teach the nurses on the protocol. This includes the knowledge of catheter removal and the relevant precautions. Therefore, the physicians should be involved in the guidance of the nurses on this issue to improve the healthcare services that they offer. A Proposed Implementation Plan with Outcome Measures One of the elements that play a vital role in the ability to provide better help for catheter patients is effective communication among nurses.

The other element is the reminder charts that they will use to remove the catheters in a timely manner. They will check and assess any forms of illness that necessitate the extended ad prolonged use of catheters on the catheterized patients for prompt removal. The assessment will enhance the evaluation of follow up care if the catheters are no longer needed. This barrier could, therefore, be a source of failure in the implementation process and thus call for more investigation. Thus, the best solution for this barrier would be the involvement in the management of the organization in the entire process. Therefore, the team should request for more funding from the management. Conclusion In conclusion, it is possible to deduce that increased cases of catheter infection could result from the lack of effective guidelines that should be followed by the nurses during the provision of patient care, which can be improved through the use of reminder charts.
