This makes Geertz, accompanied by his wife go to live in Balinese to study the culture of the society. According to the concept, their main focus was to establish all the aspect of human physical, social, and cultural life. Geertz was mainly interested in discovering the implications and interpretation of the cockfight. As result, Geertz and his wife had to live among the Balinese people and engage in the daily activities of the natives. However, they encountered several difficulties, as indicated, “the people acted as if they merely were not real, which is statistic, they were indeed real, or beside not yet” (Geertz, 442). The fight was seen as a representative of the animal savagery, male narcissism, and status rivalry that occurs in normal battles.
