Name Instructor Course Date The Poems of Leonard Cohen In the pursuit of life individuals often struggle with a variety of thoughts feelings and situations that may present difficulties or fulfillment that often result in a given condition. On one hand frustration despair and alienation are some of the horrifying consequences of human existence that are often triggered by social limitations and individual inadequacies. Alienation then is bound to become rigid to stand by itself and to make a measure of imperviousness thereby acquiring continuity to become a form of life. On the other hand feelings of love may generate joy which is also a human condition. In essence at times the feelings of disenfranchisement and fulfillment may occur concurrently triggering an inner conflict of the best way to lead one’s life. Moreover life is governed by values or beliefs or principles that give it meaning and this can include freedom and collective rights. Works Cited Butenaite Joana. The speakers of the Leonard Cohen Poems, "suzanne," "other writers," and "Going home," are very much concerned with a kind of disconnection from the world (an experience of alienation). Further, these poems align the opposite, connection, with women. In light of this, how is the poet constructed in these poems and how might we read representations of gender in relation to the poet?
