In addressing the spiritual needs of the patients, health providers ought to seek their consent and to understand the specific spiritual needs of the patients in care. This assignment will seek to discuss the impact or any pressures patients have in spirituality, the appropriate approach to address a patient's spiritual needs in high-risk patients and explore the implementation of spiritual care in my practice settings. The reception to spiritual interventions among patients is highest among patients with severe illnesses or those facing high-risk medical or surgical interventions. Patients who are about to undergo surgical procedures are likely to be at high pressure to seek or accept spiritual interventions even when they are not spiritual (Biegler et al. This is often because surgery causes both physical and spiritual trauma which can be debilitating for the patients as well as their families.

I chose this story because, in my interactions with patients, I have always found that their spiritual needs are rarely among the care plan for their care or management. As much as spirituality plays an integral role in the patient's health, spiritual care is rarely considered by providers due to lack of training in spirituality care, time constraints among others. I felt that the story of the doctor, unlike common practice, was strikingly intriguing and one to emulate in ensuring holistic patient care is delivered to patients. In my clinical setting, there is a chaplain and a sheikh that are allocated a full-time assignment to provide spiritual care to patients and staff. All new staff are oriented on the management of a patient's spiritual needs in care.
