The first experiment involves the demonstration of Lenz’s law using current induced in a loop of wire in a varying magnetic field using a magnetic bar and galvanometer. Based on the initial experiment understanding the second experiment entails examining and understanding the basic functionality of a motor and a generator. Lenz’s law was developed by a German physician known as Friedrich Lenz in 1865. The experiment elaborates the theoretic concepts of Lenz’s law and Faraday’s law in relation real-world applications such as generators and motors. The experiment also aims at distinguishing the basic principles of operation in an electric motor and generator. Theory When an electromagnet bar put into an electric coil and current passed the coil an electromotive force that opposes net torque is caused by the opposing of the magnetic field as the square current loop rotates. The torque produced by opposite forces results to the loop rotating about a common axis. The magnet acted as the generator while the galvanometer acted as the motor. Normally electric current makes the coil to rotate hence resulting into mechanical energy in the motor. The generator the mechanical energy rotates the rotor hence cutting into sequential cutting of the stator magnetic field hence inducing an electromotive force. The motor applies Lenz’s law while the generator applies Faraday’s law of induction.
